"I’ve always been intrigued with movement. From people to animals, there’s something fascinating about how things work. Growing up I played every sport I could until I settled on my 3 main ones. Ice hockey, lacrosse and tennis consumed me year round. The more I played and moved I noticed something profound. I was more interested in how people would accomplish movements than winning. This lead me to teach. I taught and learned within the sports I was currently active in. After high school I moved into mixed martial arts. To be honest I was never any good. But I loved learning from my teacher.
Fast forward to my late twenties and I found CrossFit. Watching one person control the movement of 20 plus people for hours on end and I was hooked. As soon as I built up the confidence I entered a coaching program which I would remain in for 2 years before teaching my own class. We were pushed to study detailed human anatomy to better the movement of the athletes we were working with. After a few years of CrossFit I found my true passion in life, Olympic Weightlifting. Over the past few years I studied relentlessly under my coach Yasha Kahn and his coaches and friends (International Master of Sport Vasily Polovnikov, the unparalleled Ilya Ilyin who to this day is unbeaten in the sport over 3 different weight classes, and Bart Bonk who won a bronze medal in the 2012 Olympic games). To say that I’m blessed to work with these people is an underestimate.
After my now business partner asked me to help him get his dream up and running I knew it was time to take everything to the next level. Being head coach of this gym is one of my greatest accomplishments. I’ve helped mold hundreds of athletes and continue to do so through both CrossFit and Olympic weightlifting. My barbell club Chasing Kilos has many accomplished weightlifters. I teach seminars with USAW and referee local weightlifting meets. I get to travel around and lift weights with my friends and meet incredible people with amazing stories. Most of all I get to inspire people to accomplish things they never thought were possible.

Through encouragement, clear instructions and complete support - James has transformed me.
